How are you involved in I’m Not From London?
I work predominantly on all things Under The Tree, from lines ups, booking artists to marketing! Basically anything Kim doesn’t want to do at the time and I usually take as long as possible to do them. Everything always gets done on time and its always to Kim’s extremely high standards, but Rome wasn’t built in a day! Otherwise for INFL it’s mostly admin, website changes, gig rotation and social media updates.
What’s your standard day like?
I usually wake up take a cold shower and head out to the garden, where I chop wood for the fire as part of my daily exercise routine! After a cold glass of milk and a good steak cooked rare obviously, I sit down stroke my beard whilst contemplating life. That’s all a lie; I usually wake up around noon, I do have an axe and I do use it to chop wood but only about once a month. I do love steak and milk though! Otherwise I just get on with whatever work I have. Or I end up going into town for a gig or a night in Rescue Rooms that involves copious amounts of whiskey and generally having a awesome time. Even though one day soon I’d like to actually wake up next to a beautiful woman after a night out, instead of always waking up to the sight of Ryan Thomas!
Most memorable Nottingham gig?
Saint Raymond’s home coming gig to a sold out Rescue Rooms was fantastic; I’ve never seen so much Nottingham love in one room but I’ve had so many! From attending a hoedown at the Vintage Warehouse for the Most Ugly Child’s EP Launch, to going absolutely mental at a not so secret JT Soar gig for Baby Godzilla, just before they went on the Karrang Tour!
You’re favourite 3 bands/artists?
I’m a massive fan of The Gaslight Anthem. I man crush over Brian Fallon on a daily basis; he’s just such a sexy song writer! Otherwise I’m really into Pure Love which is former Gallows front man Frank Carter’s latest band, who’s also my tattoo artist. Sadly they’re now on hiatus but trust me Pure Love will never die. Check em out if you love good old fashioned rock n roll! An lastly Tom Waits; there is only one word for this man’s musical ability and that is genius. He’s on another complete level to anyone else I’ve ever heard.
One’s to watch from Nottingham 2015?
Baby Godzilla; those guys are going places and they fully deserve it. People say go hard or go home and these boys go hard! If you haven’t had the chance to see them live yet, you haven’t lived! Watch out for Ryan Thomas and The Most Ugly Child; everybody loves a little Blues and Americana and no one in Nottingham does it better than those two! Also Robyn Hughes-Jones, who’s a lovely lass that possesses a voice that will just blow you away. I’m telling you now she’s ready to start making waves, its just a matter of time!
