INFL’s SUNDAY SINGLES CLUB #1!

WILDFIRE

Wildfire! Babe Punch‘s seditious call to arms. Invoking exponential strength with every tribal drumbeat, this could be the grunge anthem of the year so far. Sublime production by Rainy Daze Recordings with a banshee-esque guitar wailing crescendo and I think the finest sounding voice I’ve ever heard from the already accomplished Molly Godper. My favourite line has to be “Who do you call when you realise, this is not a party you can leave”. Recorded while half of Australia was burning to a crisp, perhaps even inspiring the title, this song could almost be prophetic of the dread that was about to consume the world. With the momentum they’ve been building recently, Wildfire could confidently be spreading faster than a respiratory pandemic under a callous and ineffective Government. Get a copy while you can (and wash your hands).

YELLOW BALLOON – FREESTYLE #2

TY HEALY‘s second in the Yellow Balloon series of Quarantine freestyles inspired by the legacy of his late aunt Claire Moran-Healy, R.I.P.

A beautifully chilled out reflective track exploring analysis paralysis, love, loss, ambition and reminiscence complemented by a socially distanced wake and bake selfie video, seeingly shot on Woodthorpe Park golf course. Not wanting to show my age but the consummate sampling of one of Mr Dynamite himself’s most notorious hooks and the M.I.B reference makes this (in my mind at least) a nostalgic ‘Spring’ prelude to FP’s ‘Summertime‘ 🙂 My favourite line being the “Mick Foley mixed with ‘Super Saiyan Brolly’ & I still flex the Casio like a Rollie “. No fugazis here, just uncut Nottinghop Gold.

THROWING STONES

The opening line “Stop Giving yourself away, soon there’ll be nothing left” instantly took me, lyrically to one of the thin white duke’s final offerings, “I Can’t Give Everything Away”. I know Jake’s a big Bowie fan and I’m sure this was coincidental, though the protective sentiment remains the same. Jake narrates the moment of clarity one feels following an eventful fall, delivered in such a way to suggest this would be experience speaking out to help someone in the same situation. The catharsis of having found yourself through losing everything. “Throwing Stones” is an extremely well produced, comforting and uplifting acoustic pop song. It’s enlightening that such a confident and established performer should choose such a personal and self aware track as his debut single. I’ve no doubt we shall be hearing more from J Buckley, and I’m very much looking forward to that. I recommend listening to this one as the sun drops outside whilst drinking Pinot Grigio as you’ve ran out of ale.
