Our man in the ring Kyle ‘Barracuda’ Barclay
I’m Not From London sponsored Kyle who boxed and won on Sunday 11th September at Village Hotel and Leisure Club in Chilwell. This was all for Charity Boxing Match – UWCB who are aiming to raise 5 million pounds for Cancer Research UK this year. Darren Blair one of our Artist Liaisons introduced us into the boxing community and suggested we sponsored such a great cause.
1). Did you have to go through any special diets or training to get into shape for the fight and how long did it take?
I had to train vigorously for around 10 weeks, this involved a lot of cardio work and light weight work, the food I was eating was all the white meats along with stuff like sweet potato, broccoli and all your other greens!
2). Who would you most like to have a friendly boxing match with, it can be real or fiction?
Tough one! If I had to choose anybody I would have to choose Muhammed Ali or Floyd may weather, 2 of the greatest and you have to learn from the best after all!
3). How did you first get into boxing, when did you fall in love with the sport?
I first got into boxing when I was around 13-14 years of age and my older cousin was doing well in the sport competing for England and winning midlands championships, really gave me the feel and determination to follow his footsteps.
4). If you could pick any song as your entrance music and to fight too what would it be and why?
I would probably have to say the song I walked out too on Sunday night ‘the game & skrillex El chapo’ reason being the intro repeats “I am the god” and that’s how I like to feel walking out, also it can be very intimidating! Having said that if I feel a different song fits in better it will be replaced.
5). Who would win in a boxing match between a cartoon kangaroo and Croc?
Hmm that’s a tough one haha! I would have to say the kangaroo everytime I mean them guys can throw punches and always come in with the cheeky muai Thai leg kicks, we’ve all seen the YouTube videos right? Kangaroo jack all the way.
6). Do you have any superstitions or rituals ( not in a demonic way lol ) that you do before training or a fight. Like rubbing a lucky rabbit foot?
Do I have any rituals before training or a fight? I do not other than putting on my headphones and getting lost in my own world! I do get the odd foot rub of Darren though he should become a masseuse! Highly recommend everyone back at the office put in for one you will love it.
7. Which food or drink is your guilty pleasure that you just can’t give up even whilst training?
Haha my guilty food or drink, to be fair I have been quite good with my training and kept to a good diet but I must say me and Darren have treated ourselves to a nice pub steak! Sorry guys!
8). Do you plan to do more charity boxing matches along with regular matches?
I will be doing regular competitions in the near future, as for charity bouts I don’t see why not. If I feel the charity is for a great cause like the cancer research UK event I’ve just been involved in then definitely. 110%, and I would like to encourage young people especially to get involved as it will change your whole persona on life and make you a better man. Weigh In –
So the weigh in took place at the boxing gym they had both been training at for 8 weeks consistently but its not til only 2 days before you find out who your opponent is. As you can see his opponent already had a black eye so this made Kyle think is he a brawler or a complete novice. Darren Blair who was confident throughout the 8 weeks also helped train Kyle by giving him extra sessions out of the gym.
Fight Night –
Kyle went on to win the fight comfortably whilst dominating all 3 rounds putting his opponent in a very uncomfortable position’s throughout each round and showing he was better in every aspect he is truly a well rounded fighter. Everyone was impressed with his overall efforts and Darren Blair can been seen in one of the images below looking like his confident manager!
