My First Month at INFL – Zhante’ Simons

0

My first month as an intern at I’m Not From London has been insightful and steady. during time, I’ve realised just how lucky and grateful I am to have received this opportunity to get a hands on in the industry so I can start and progress my career. I’ve learned about the  music royalty collection organisations (PRS and PPL) that INFL deal with to chase up money for their artists  I never knew of prior; registering releases for artists and also working with the other labels that INFL distribute, collect for and register with societies on behalf of,  checking that their contracts were all signed and correct.

Through working alongside Will, I’ve been taught about the in’s and outs about PRS and PPL, certain artists and bands, label insights on release strategies and venue/hosting tips . In addition, I have managed to list promoters for upcoming gigs and tours that we want to work with and to work with INFL’s roster of artists as things start to move back to normalcy.

I’ve had the time to think about what I want to go on and become in the music industry too. I’ve swayed to the side of wanting to manage/become an A&R for a particular artist. Though I haven’t go the route of wanting to be a producer/DJ/artist myself, I would still like to have a hands on role in the industry regarding the art, and still manage to work behind the scenes.

So far, working at INFL has been an amazing experience and opportunity thus far. If I had known how much I would have enjoyed it, I wouldn’t have let it just have been an alternative option to University.  In fact , through my time with INFL, I was introduced to Will’s Fishergate Point Venue business partners, Trish and Ian Gardiner who run the Circle Of Light music project now in it’s third year which I have signed up for, part of the course gave me an option of signing up for a year long free diploma in music which I’m now also enrolled on. Hopefully in the coming months to a year, I manage to gain more experience, opportunity and progression within the industry.
