From an assortment of locations across the US, indie-pop enthused 19 Miles Per Hour are set to release their new single, ‘CONTRADICTIONS’ September 2022. With the goal to unite using music, the quartet centralises upon the notion that melodies have the power to make us feel like we are not alone in this world. Culturally relevant lyricism coupled with catchy yet passionate rhetoric, 19 Miles Per Hour hope to bring further awareness to conversations surrounding mental health.
People are going through many struggles right now, our world is overwhelmed with catastrophes, war and disaster. Approximately 280 million people in the world have depression. Music is a way to cope, escape and evolve from such negativity, and communicate hope with listeners. To achieve this, uplifting sound designs were a key feature of the track – utilizing synth arpeggios developed to create a musical hook. Whilst the lyricism is fundamentally a timeless pop melody that will get stuck in your head, they convey the narrative of taking the listener on a journey of healing.
With a combination of dreamlike synths and rhythmic drum beats, Candy Riot’s ‘Moonstar’ teleports you back to the 80s – you can’t help but tap your foot and groove along to their music. Each track provides a different feel and mood for the listener, all of which feel tranquil. For me, the paired vocals and harmonies are beautifully angelic and I believe they add a subtle magical essence to the tracks. The lyrics touch on all sorts of topics that resonated with me as I listened. I found that in my mind, the rhythms felt beautifully polyphonic yet still blending so well with the other parts of the track in a satisfying conclusion.
