‘GLITTER’  by BABE PUNCH

PLAY IT LOUD AND PROUD MOTHERFUCKERS.

Ain’t no second guessing when Babe Punch are in town and this track is the ultimate “Take It Or Leave It” anthem.

Fierce. Forceful. Decisive.

There’s no doubt that, when Glitter is being played, ain’t nobody taking no shit from nobody!

We know who we are and we’re sick of bowing down to other people’s manipulative, vituperative fuckeries.

This is the message that I’m getting from playing  ‘Glitter’, the band’s first 2021 release and, by Jove, does it resonate in me like the reverberated ringing of a real-life PR system in a packed, sweaty East Midlands basement venue.

Good God, does this bring back good half-distorted memories of contorted, happy faces and sticky, beer-stained trainers.

You know, nothing might quite compare to seeing a band like Babe Punch LIVE but when a track is as spirited, spunky and flaming-hot spicy like this it can’t help but leave you with a burning fire in your belly that can only be extinguished by half-accidentally elbowing a stranger in the solar-plexus before it being reciprocated back at you.

This Nottingham/Derby based four-piece are keeping the grunge alive and well in the UK with a consistently powerful series of intensely, ridiculously heavy tunes and performances for which they’ve been getting attention.

And they sure as hell channel that raucousness into this track.

Power!

‘YOU’D BE MINE’ by Boshe and Sam Shaw

The hairs on my arms are giving this song a standing ovation.

Every now and then, one comes across the rare breed of song that will give you goosebumps, covering your body with a layer of warmth and jingle-jangle, tingly, feel-good delight.

From the second you stick it on, you just know it’s going to be something special before you’ve even got through the first eight bars. Then, like the first bite of a hard-shelled decadent dessert, you break through and surrender yourself to a downward stream of exquisite, rich, sweet-scented sensory indulgence.

Okay, I did just eat some chocolate before listening to this song but, regardless, ‘You’d Be Mine’ by Boshe and Sam Shaw is transporting me into a Willy Wonka wonderland of subtly-psychedelic, slightly-glitchy, technicolor, pure imagination and, for that, I can only thank them.

If you’re listening to this song right now, you’re listening to the sacred love children of MGMT and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. In fact I remember getting a very similar type of feeling when I listened to ‘Sense’ by the latter band, pure psychotropic elation.

These dream-pop, laptop love children, Boshe and Sam Shaw, hail from Leeds and Nottingham respectively and are providing us with the long-distance, far-fetched escapism that, every now and then, we so desperately need.

Sheesh! Can’t wait to hear more from these two.
