A Review of Marta’s UK Country Pop Single ‘In Another Life’

UK country music has spent years trying to find its footing, torn between reverence for the Nashville blueprint and the desire to be something distinctly its own…

London-based singer-songwriter Marta is one of the artists quietly solving that problem, and ‘In Another Life’, her latest single, is a convincing demonstration of exactly how she is doing it.

The song started with one line: “you were the love of my life in another life.” From there, Marta says it wrote itself in twenty to thirty minutes, flowing directly from a real conversation that brought up a real feeling. You can hear that authenticity in the finished track. This is not a song assembled from genre conventions but one that arrived whole, shaped by the specific emotional experience of wondering what would have happened if things had gone differently, if different choices had been made, if that person had actually been the one.

What makes ‘In Another Life’ genuinely exciting rather than merely accomplished is the way Marta holds those “what if” questions without letting them tip into self-pity. The sweeping melodies carry real cathartic weight, the kind that comes from working through something genuinely difficult and arriving somewhere clearer on the other side. She has described the song as being about healing, becoming stronger, and not waiting for someone else to come and save you, and all of that is audible in the production’s emotional arc.

Her international credentials are not insignificant context here either. Debut single ‘All About Us’ hit number one in Germany and number four in Norway. ‘I Need A Love Story’ sat at number one on Taste of Country’s Best Music Video of the Week for over a month. She has performed at CMA Fest in Nashville. Songs in Piano Tiles 2 and Dancing Line, games with over a billion downloads combined. This is not an artist at the beginning of something: this is an artist arriving at the moment where everything builds to.

‘In Another Life’ sounds exactly like that arrival, and it is a genuinely beautiful one.
