A Review of the Epic vincethealien - ‘Poisonous Child’

The first lyric came first, and everything else followed from it…
"You became my angel, and also my hurt": vincethealien wrote that line and found in it the image that would anchor the entire song, a visual he describes as cinematic in its clarity. A snake across his shoulder. An angel hovering above. Two apparently opposing forces that turn out to serve the same function: bringing buried emotions to a surface where they can finally be met honestly.
'Poisonous Child' was not made quickly or cleanly. An early version from 2025 leaned heavily into experimental production and structure, and vincethealien eventually recognised it was not yet expressing what he needed. He stepped away. Returning later with producer MOTTRON and a clearer understanding of the emotional core he was reaching toward, the song found its final shape: one that carries an unexpected sense of joy in the production, sitting in striking contrast with the emotional weight underneath, neither quality softening the other but both amplifying what the other is doing.
The collaboration that completed the track brought together TATISHI/COLDPRESSEDPAPI and BLCKBUTTERFLY alongside vincethealien: three queer Black artists making space for vulnerability without the defensive mechanisms that usually prevent genuine emotional honesty. BLCKBUTTERFLY's hip-hop-inspired ad-libs open the song with infectious movement and personality. Tatishi's verse adds directness, punctuated by the lyric vincethealien identifies as the track's essential statement: "Just show me an emotion." Not explanation. Not defence. Emotion itself.
The cover artwork extends that philosophy visually: masks being removed, the layers constructed to present a familiar exterior while struggling internally. Removing them is, vincethealien says, an ongoing process of becoming more honest with himself and with others. The song exists simultaneously as catharsis and invitation, something you can dance to while feeling something deeper underneath. If that duality works, he says, they accomplished exactly what they set out to do. It works.
