Arturia MiniFreak. Arturia DrumBrute. Korg Volca Keys. Korg Volca FM. That is the new line-up in Alimba's studio, and it goes a long way towards explaining the year he has had.

I keep returning to one detail in Alimba's story. His first EP, 'Beyond Milky Way', released in 2010 through Divaani Records, featured two original Experimental Techno tracks and two remixes of them. Sixteen years later, he is releasing a techno single called 'Refracted Echoes'.

It is interesting to set this against where he began.

That is not a straight line, and it is more interesting for it. In between came the Space Ambient of 'The Universe', the Downtempo of 'Emerald's World', a move from Greece to the UK, a long break, and a return with 'Liminal Keys', an album he describes as the last of his ambient downtempo chapter. Then came 'Resonance' and its vintage techno and trance, followed by the Vocal Trance of 'Temporal Distortion'.

Spiros Aliprantis is no stranger to a change of tools. Around 2005 he started with eJay and a few sample libraries, making songs with his younger brother, before moving to FL Studio 5 for more control. Years later an Arturia MiniBrute gave life to '4 Stages of a Journey', a space ambient drone EP released on Bandcamp in 2018 and tied to his move from Greece to the UK. He taught himself both production and music theory, and the studio has grown the same way, one tool at a time.

What strikes me is how much of this he has done on his own terms, self-taught in production and theory, and now working with an Arturia MiniFreak, a DrumBrute and two Korg Volcas. All of which leads back to 'Refracted Echoes', the techno single due on 30th October. It follows 'Resonance', his early 2026 album of vintage techno and trance, and it sits alongside the EP as evidence that the new setup is already producing finished music. With a live YouTube series, an EP out, a single on the way and an album in progress, the new kit is clearly being used.

I'm curious to hear where the loop lands.
