In Norwegian, Swedish and German folklore, the huldra is a forest spirit of extraordinary and dangerous beauty: irresistible, powerful, impossible to control, her hollow back and cow’s tail signalling the complexity that made her simultaneously desired and feared. For Norwegian alt-pop artist MIIA, the huldra has always represented something personal, an archetype she felt connected to but was also afraid of, until she understood why. She was feared because she could not be controlled. And for years, MIIA was afraid of her own power too.
Huldra, her long-awaited debut album arriving July 13th 2026, is the fullest expression of what happens when that fear transforms into acceptance. Produced by Benjamin Dan Ravn Fahre and Joachim JR Rygg, the thirteen-track record spans pop, indie pop, dream pop, electronic pop, dark pop and Nordic pop in a sonic landscape as varied and emotionally layered as the mythological figure it takes its name from. The album traces the complete arc of emotional transformation: from the vulnerable confession of ‘I Can Tell a Lie’ and the impossible choices of ‘Necessary Evil’ through the euphoric rush of ‘I’m in Love with You’, the fearless celebration of ‘Delicious’ and the ultimate self-forgiveness of the closing ‘Huldrarave’.
MIIA first broke onto the international stage at sixteen when ‘Dynasty’ premiered on Billboard and climbed to number two on the US Viral 50, surpassing one million streams in twenty-three days and accumulating more than 400 million streams worldwide in the decade since. She has appeared at Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix, collaborated with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra on an orchestral version of ‘Dynasty’, and built a devoted community of fans she calls her Beautiful Creatures across daily social media conversations and livestreams.
