PREMIERE: Nottingham's Wayne Banks Goes Solo With Anthemic Debut 'World We Share'

There's a particular kind of pride that comes with watching a local name step into the spotlight after years of standing just off it, and that's exactly what's happening with Wayne Banks right now. You'll know the name even if you don't quite know it yet: the Nottingham bass player has spent decades on stages and in studios behind some seriously big names, and today he's finally releasing music under his own.
We're thrilled to be premiering 'World We Share', the first single from Banks' upcoming debut solo album, out today.
It's an easy one to fall for: upbeat, festival-ready indie pop/rock with the kind of chorus built for a few thousand people to shout back at once. But scratch beneath the singalong surface and there's real substance here. Banks has described the track as a social protest anthem, one that draws on his own experiences growing up on a Nottingham council estate, wrestling with themes of class, empowerment and reclaiming autonomy.
"It's about voices that get ignored or pushed aside, and about refusing to disappear even when the world tries to box people in," Wayne explains. For someone who's spent his career as a supporting player, that idea of refusing invisibility feels especially pointed. It's also, in Banks' own words, almost a rejection of the environment that shaped it: a song about unity and people standing together rather than the division he saw growing up.
If the name still isn't ringing bells, his CV should help. Banks has performed and recorded with the likes of Robin Gibb, Saxon and The Classic Rock Show, building a reputation as a musical director, session player and TV composer long before this solo chapter began. Fans of Oasis, The Jam and The Who will find plenty to love in the big, anthemic rock on offer here.
This is only the beginning. 'World We Share' is the first of two singles ahead of Banks' debut album, with follow-up track 'Cold River' landing in September and the full record due in November. Given the strength of this opener, mastered at Abbey Road no less, it's shaping up to be one of Nottingham's most compelling album rollouts of the year.
