Some songs carry more weight than others before you’ve even pressed play — and knowing Vi Talli’s story makes ‘Running’ hit that much harder.
The Ukrainian artist was on the verge of releasing her debut album back home in 2022 when Russia’s invasion changed everything. She and her younger sister fled, found refuge in France, and Vi did what she’d always done: she performed. Streets, cafés, small clubs — wherever someone would listen. Music had always been her first language, growing up in a family of performers, and it became her anchor through some of the most disorienting years imaginable.
Fast forward to now, and Vi is based in the US, having made the leap from Miami to Nashville to Los Angeles following a chance encounter that redirected her path entirely. ‘Running’, released via soundPUPPY and the second single from her debut album NO TIME FOR PERFECTION, feels like the natural soundtrack to all of that movement.
The track is about the moment you realise you simply cannot stay where you’ve been — not from recklessness, but from necessity. Vi puts it well herself: “It’s not just leaving. It’s reclaiming yourself.” And that distinction matters, because ‘Running’ never sounds like panic or flight. It sounds like resolve. The production is uplifting and quietly beautiful, carrying a sense of forward momentum that feels genuinely earned rather than manufactured. There’s optimism here, but it’s the kind that’s been tested — shaped by real upheaval rather than assumed as a comfortable default.
Following her debut single ‘You Don’t Know Me’, which introduced her emotional fearlessness to a new audience, ‘Running’ pushes the story further into motion. Where that track confronted the unknown and held its ground, this one moves through it. The arrangement mirrors that energy — propulsive, warm, resolute — and Vi’s voice sits inside it with complete assurance.
She’s building something real here, piece by piece. ‘Running’ is a compelling step in that direction.
