Before we talk about ‘One of One’ as a single, it is worth taking a moment to understand who Cece actually is, because the biography here is genuinely extraordinary and it matters enormously to understanding what this release represents.
Born in a small village in Nigeria and raised in the Bronx after naturalisation in the United States, Chinasa Gift Nwokocha began through poetry, creative writing and alternative freestyle rap before developing a formal musical foundation at her mother’s encouragement through piano study. A gifted student at specialised performing arts schools, she excelled across music, creative writing, athletics, mathematics and physics, published poetry at an early age, won a school-wide poetry recital competition, and received formal training in jazz, Afrobeat and hip-hop dance while competing in basketball and contributing to theatre productions as both performer and creative contributor. That breadth is not incidental. It is the foundation.
In 2017 she secured her first music partnership through a joint venture with angel investor Matthew Scalaro, leveraging an ecosystem she had been building since 2013. Her 2021 producer project If Not Me Then Whoaccumulated more than one million digital streams. Since then, she has contributed to projects connected to Cardi B and Atlantic Records, collaborated with Spacey Kay on creative initiatives involving Rodney Darkchild Jerkins and Doja Cat, provided recording and vocal production services for campaigns delivered to Acrisure, and worked in sessions associated with Asake, Capella Grey, Bad Boy Timz, Pheelz, Yung Caza and Remi Roxx. The list of artists she has contributed to, developed, or collaborated with runs to dozens of names across multiple genres and continents.
