Chris Pannella Releases ‘Holdin On’ – Reviewing A Powerful Tribute to Friendship, Loss, & Lasting Memories

‘Holdin On’ was born from that birthday, and from the ache of rereading that final message a hundred times afterward.

The single serves both as tribute and reflection, channelling through music the specific grief of losing someone who understood you, the irreplaceable weight of a friend who had been one of the biggest supporters of Pannella’s music even when he was still an amateur who did not yet sing. Thomas always encouraged him. Pannella waited until last year to finally start.

The emotional directness and lyrical honesty that define ‘Holdin On’ reflect a songwriter who understands that music can hold experiences that other forms cannot. The heartfelt, reflective melodies give the tribute its sonic shape: a song for the lost, for the people who changed the course of your life, for the friends whose memories never leave. The particular grief captured here, that of carrying someone whose final message to you was a birthday wish, is rendered with a specificity and tenderness that makes the track’s universal resonance feel entirely earned rather than engineered.

Thomas will never hear the finished song, Pannella acknowledges. But he knows his friend would have loved it, and that knowledge is present in every note!
